Specialty Services

We provide a variety of specialty services to diagnose and treat out patients from simple to severe complications of pregnancy.

  1. Multiples
Austin Perinatal has been honored by the medical director of a major insurance company as having the lowest preterm delivery rate of twins of all perinatal groups in central Texas. We pride ourselves on the “normalization” of multiple pregnancies, only intervening or prescribing hospitalization or bed rest only if there is no other option. We utilize close monitoring, 17-hydroxyprogesterone injections and cerclage as indicated by your own individualized need.

As seen on TLC’s “Hodges Half Dozen,” Dr. Berry is the only specialist in central Texas to have managed or delivered five sets of quintuplets during his career.

  2. Infectious Diseases
Dr. Berry has extensive experience in infectious disease. Whether you have a refractory urinary tract infection, multiple drug resistant tuberculosis, exposure to a sexually transmitted disease, HIV/AIDS or multiple antibiotic allergies, Dr. Berry can assist with any of your infectious disease concerns.

Dr. Berry has published peer-reviewed journal articles on postoperative wound infection and studied with the leaders in gynecological infectious disease (including Dr. Mark Martens and Dr. Hunter Hammill).

  3. Cancer
Dr. Berry trained with the world’s leaders in the treatment of cancer in pregnancy. He has published protocols on the active management of breast cancer throughout pregnancy with the specialists at the University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Center. Dr. Berry believes that a patient should not have to choose between her baby and treating a newly diagnosed cancer. Mastectomy, lymph node dissection, general anesthesia and triple agent chemotherapy have all been extensively used after 12 weeks of pregnancy. Dr. Berry also helps manage leukemia and lymphoma in pregnancy.

Whatever unexpected complications arise in your pregnancy, Austin Perinatal Associates can help you through.

  4. Hyperemesis/Iron Deficiency
Austin Perinatal Associates has recently opened our infusion clinic to assist patients who may experience severe nausea and vomiting during pregnancy. IV fluid hydration can be done in as little as one hour. We can administer IV medications on-site without the difficulty and expense of a hospital or ER visit. We also administer IV iron for those patients with severe iron deficiency anemia.

Don’t fret with chemotherapy centers and hematology visits. At Austin Perinatal Associates, we work to ensure all pregnant patients feel right at home.

  5. Clotting Disorders
Many clotting disorders can complicate an otherwise normal pregnancy. Many patients will have a history of a deep vein thrombosis (DVT) or pulmonary embolus (PE) in their past, or have a family member with an inherited disease that predisposes a patient to excessive blood clot formation.

Austin Perinatal Associates are experts in dealing with active or historical thrombophilia diseases that predispose a patient to life-threatening blood clots. We have extensive experience in prevention and treatment of stroke, heart attack, DVT, PE and all of the diseases that predispose a patient to such health complications. Some clotting disorders have been associated with recurrent pregnancy loss. If you have such a history, Austin Perinatal Associates can ensure your best care.
